Hello, we’re Amanda and Ryan, The World Wanderers. We are podcast hosts and digital nomads, and we travel and work from anywhere in the world.
The World Wanderers began in 2014 after returning from South America when we decided, hey we should start a travel podcast!
In our blog posts and podcast episodes, we’re writing and talking about travel destinations, the digital nomad lifestyle, and interviewing extraordinary people from around the world.
How Did The World Wanderers Happen
In 2011, we decided to take our first backpacking trip together after attending the University of Calgary. We became hooked immediately!
Our decision to travel full-time was made shortly after we returned from 6-month backpacking in South America in 2014. We then spent the following two years working, and in 2016, we were able to take our first digital nomad trip to Asia where we were working and traveling full-time!
Since then, we have traveled and worked in Asia, Mexico, Guatemala & Panama. Although we call western Canada “home”, most of our time these days is spent eating tacos and guacamole somewhere in Mexico!
What To Expect
A digital nomad lifestyle allows you to travel the world, learn from different cultures, and work when and where you want.
The World Wanderers Podcast, features episodes on people who have transitioned to digital nomad lifestyles and others that are living self-directed lives with travel.
Every episode features a new destination, a guest, or a travel story that will encourage you to get out there and see the world! We share our journey from backpackers to digital nomads, as well the journeys of other people who took the leap to travel or took the leap to work and travel abroad.
In these episodes, you’ll hear from ourselves and fellow digital nomads on how they live the digital nomad lifestyle, its ups and downs, what comes with it, great hacks and tips for making money, and much more. We also cover how to pay for a lifestyle that many people will never understand, making digital nomad life a breeze!
Digital Nomad Life Stories
Here you’ll find podcast episodes featuring real-life examples of digital nomads, answers to simple and complex questions related to this lifestyle, and information and advice on how to live an easy digital nomad life. To begin your journey, we want to demonstrate how we do it, why we do it, and where we do it!
The best way to do it is to show you how other nomads do. Let’s dig in!

Tour Guiding and Travel Overload with Andy Steves of Weekend Student Adventures
While his father updated guidebooks, produced TV shows, and led tours, Andy Steves grew up following him on his work trips to Europe.
Upon his high school graduation, he saw an opportunity in a market for shorter-term city tours for students studying abroad and on a budget. After initially studying industrial design in college, he took a trip to Europe and completely changed his focus towards traveling.
With Andy’s company, travelers can go on tours of all lengths, styles, and excursions. And that’s not all, he grants quality experiences by hiring only well-experienced local guides. By going to the city first and building optimal itineraries, Andy perfectly adjusts the tours to everyone’s preferences
Aside from providing tours in fifteen cities across Europe, Andy has also published a Europe guidebook and launched the Andy Steves Travel Podcast.
Living an Offbeat Life with Debbie Arcangeles
Among her many projects, Debbie hosts The Offbeat Life podcast, in which guests are digital nomads and people living remotely.
Growing up, Debbie was fascinated by travel and set out to build a career. That allowed her to earn a living while exploring the world. Her first two years as a travel journalist were fulfilling, but after a few years, she felt burned out. As a result, she went back home and started a more traditional career.
She realized a few years later that something was missing, despite her success in early childhood education. The stability and quality of life were great, but the freedom and creativity weren’t there.
Having set out on a new path, Debbie has created a fulfilling and successful career that offers the flexibility to travel and work remotely.
Travel with Kids: Jake and Michelle Schomp, Parents of the “Retired Toddlers”
Michelle and Jake Schomp were sure that they would have to put aside their love of travel and work at a corporate job once they started a family. But, as they realized they still wanted to spend time with their kids, it was now the perfect time to show them the world!
Since then, they have traveled with their kids Henley and Jagger to places like the East Coast of the USA, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Cambodia, sharing family adventures on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.
Riley Tench describes his experience of being stranded on a Cruise Ship

On our podcast, Riley explained how his interest in travel started, what led him to work on cruise ships, and then talk through his experience of living through the pandemic and now spending 100+ days living on a boat without guests.
