Why have we stayed at Airbnb’s so often since getting to Asia?

We both love staying in hostels. They are a cheap place to spend a night, but there is a lot of other value you get from staying in a dorm room. The social aspect helps you learn what to do in a city and you have a better chance to meet people and have fun experiences with new friends.
Lately, we’ve been staying a lot more at Airbnb’s. When we look at what we can get on Airbnb for the price of two beds in a hostel dorm room, it usually blows the hostel away.
In Kuala Lumpur, we had a fancy studio apartment for less that the price of two beds in a ten-bed dorm. It’s a no-brainer from a comfort perspective, but after staying in Airbnb’s for a while we began to feel like we were missing something from almost exclusive hostel travel.
