Traveling the Thai Islands: Koh Phangan to Koh Lanta

If you are planning a trip to Thailand, visiting the Thai Islands is a must! Here are our recommendations for traveling from Koh Phangan to Koh Lanta:

Need to Know: Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is located on the east side of Thailand in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Phangan is known for its full moon parties, but it also has a ton more to offer visitors! The island has great water for scuba diving and snorkeling, amazing night markets and tons of great restaurants. Even if you’re not interested in a full moon party, this island a backpackers paradise.

High season is from January to March because these are the least rainy months of the year. Since Koh Phangan is only accessible by ferry, we recommend going in one of the drier months of the year so that you can fully take advantage of all that the island has to offer.

Koh Phangan is close to Koh Samui and a few other smaller islands in the Gulf of Thailand that are all equally as beautiful. If you have the time, we highly recommend doing a bit of island hopping before heading to the other side of Thailand for more island hopping!

Need to Know: Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta is located on the western side of Thailand by the Andaman Sea. It’s known for its stunning white sandy beaches, and great restaurants. One of the best things you can do on the island is to rent a scooter and beach hop across the island! Koh Lanta is also home to the Koh Lanta National Park, and if you’re here for a few days, it’s worth it to take a break from the beach to check out some of the beautiful nature this island has to offer.

Again, it’s best to visit Koh Lanta in the dry season or the shoulder season around dry season. Dry season which runs from November to March, and although these will be the busiest months of the year to visit, it’s for a reason.

How to Get Around:

To get from Koh Lanta to Koh Phangan or vice versa, you need to take a bus and a ferry. It sounds complicated, but it’s not! A bus will take you from coast to coast, and then a ferry will take you from Raja Ferry to Koh Phangan.

One of the easiest to book this trip is using BookAway. BookAway offers 2 departures daily for the route between Koh Lanta and Koh Phangan and the prices start at just $34! You can choose from standard or high-speed classes (we recommend high speed – it’s worth it!), and the best part is that you can book everything online. You can book your travels from Koh Phangan to Koh Lanta here.

Traveling around Thailand can be stressful with the language barrier and the culture difference, so it’s best to work with a company that you trust will get you there. BookAway offers 24/7 support and a flexible cancellation policy, which is pretty much everything you need as a traveler!

Now, it’s time to start planning your Thailand trip! White sand beaches, great food, and good times are calling your name.
