How can I make money online while traveling?
This is one of the questions we get asked the most as digital nomads. Although there are tons of ways to make money from the comfort of your home or while you’re on the road, one of our favourite ways to generate income online is through teaching English.
We have both been working for a company called VIPKid for the last few years, and it’s been an excellent source of side income as we travel the world. It’s also really fun to teach little kids English using songs, games, and activities!
How does it work?
Each class is 25 minutes long, and it’s done through the VIPKid app. This means that you don’t have to do any lesson planning! You just show up with your digital classroom (including a nice background and some props) and teach the kids the lessons they are on.
What is the schedule like?
You can open your schedule as you are available! If you are in North America, this will likely mean that you teach mostly early mornings, but that leaves the rest of the day for exploring, other work, or other activities.
What do I need to apply?
You must be a Canadian or an American with a bachelor’s degree! You will get paid more based on having a degree that is more geared toward teaching English or teaching kids, but if you don’t have a ton of experience, don’t worry. There are tons of workshops and ways to learn as you go!
What is the pay like?
The minimum pay is $7.50 USD/class. For each class you complete, you will receive an added $1/class, and there are also monthly bonuses. So, for someone with very little experience and the lowest qualifications necessary, you will get paid $17/hour. This isn’t too bad, considering you can show up in your pyjamas and get paid to hang out with cute kids!
