The 5 Things You Shouldn’t Miss in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the most amazing countries we’ve ever visited. It’s fast paced and always bustling, the city is modern and impressive, and there seems to be an infinite list of things to do.

Choosing what to do when you only have a few days in Hong Kong can be tough, so here are the 5 activities that we enjoyed the most:

1.Hike Victoria Peak

You can take a tram, but the hike is sweaty and makes it to much more rewarding when you get to the top. Regardless of how you choose to get there though, don’t miss this view point! Victoria Peak stands higher than the highest building in Hong Kong and you get an unreal birds eye view from the top.

2. Visit the Big Buddha

It’s a bit of a trek to get to the Big Buddha because it’s not on Hong Kong Island or the main land. It took us 2 different trains to reach the starting point for the Big Buddha, and then you either can take a taxi, the gondola, or a bus. Unfortunately the gondola was closed the day we went, and we ended up standing in line for over an hour to get the bus to the Big Buddha.

Once you arrive there, you only need to walk a short distance before you get your first peak at the Big Buddha, and boy is he big and beautiful! The adventure to get there was all made worth it at the first sight of the Buddha.

We took time to walk up to and around the Buddha, before making our way back down the steps to take more photos from a distance. There are a few nearby paths and temples to explore, as well as a small village to check out before you make your way back down.

3. Get out of the city!

Hong Kong is a lot bigger than many people realize, and it is much more than just a big city. We spent a day hiking Dragon’s Back, and it was one of our favorite days in Hong Kong. We quickly escaped the hustle and bustle of the city, stepping out of the bus and straight onto the hiking travel, which weaves its way along the lush countryside with the ocean to our right, and nothing but greenery to our left.

After a few hours of hiking, we arrived on a secluded surf beach where we grabbed drinks before hopping on the bus back to the city.

If you have the time, budget a day to escape the city and hike one of the many amazing trails surrounding the Hong Kong city center.

4. Eat delicious food in Soho

Soho is on Hong Kong island and is a fun neighborhood to explore for good coffee, cocktails, and all the good food.

We had countless amazing meals in Hong Kong, most of which were in Soho, and it is definitely an area worth venturing to, even if you don’t eat a single thing.

5. Take the star ferry to the mainland to see the sky line at night

The Hong Kong skyline is one of the most spectacular + impressive sky lines we’ve ever seen, and it is even better at night when the buildings light up.

From Hong Kong island, take the star ferry across the harbor, taking in the impressive, modern buildings, and then make your way to the walkway along the harbor to watch the sunset and see the buildings twinkle.

It will most likely be busy when you do this, so be patient with everyone else who is trying to take in the same sight as you!
