19 Awesome Things To Do in Atlanta

During our time in Atlanta, we had a lot of opportunities to get out and explore all that this beautiful city has to offer! Here are my top 19 things to see and do while in Atlanta:

1.Ponce City Market

This is one my favorite things to do in Atlanta! Ponce City Market (PCM) used to be the old Sears wearhouse that has now been converted into apartments, office space, and a trendy shopping area with food drinks. PCM is fun almost anytime of the day, but on the weekend, you’ll find it packed with people enjoy lunch or taking a walk on the beltline.

2. Walk on the Beltline

The beltline goes through most of Atlanta, but my favorite stretch is from the Krog Street Market (more on that later!), to Ponce City Market, and then on to Piedmont Park. It’s an amazing walk that can be broken up for lunch at PCM, and a nap in the park. There is a great walking/running/biking path and a ton of great graffiti to take in on along the way.

3. Krog Street Market

Located over in Reynoldstown right near the Krog Street tunnel, Krog Street market offers up on tap beer and a ton of great food choices. It’s a fun place to meet with friends and enjoy some awesome food!

 4. Spend an afternoon at a cozy coffee shop

Atlanta is FULL of good coffee! Each area of the city has multiple choices of amazing coffee shops. Some of my favorite are:

Java Vino in Virginia Highlands

Land of a Thousand Hills in Atlantic Station or up in Roswell

Chattahoochee Coffee Company on the Westside

Dancing Goats right near Ponce City Market

ParkGrounds in Reynoldstown (you can even bring your dog!)

Revelator on the Westside – this place is a bit expensive but it’s an awesome place to work!

Octane – any and all of them. Easily my favorite latte in ATL.

Corso Coffee in Buckhead

Aurora in Little 5 Points – they make a mean matcha latte!

5. Hike Stone Mountain

A trip to Atlanta is not complete without a trek up Atlanta’s only real “mountain”. Stone Mountain got it’s name because it is a giant slab of quartz that goes 14km below the surface of the earth. After hiking Stone Mountain, you can also pay a visit to Civil War memorial that is etched into the side of the mountain.

6. Hike Kennesaw Mountain

There are a ton of great trails around Kennesaw, most of which will take you to the highest point of the mountain where you get an awesome view of the city of Atlanta. This is a great way to spend a day in nature and get some exercise, while learning a bit about Civil War history.

7. Hike East Palisades

Stone Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain are quintessential Atlanta experiences, but East Palisades is actually my favorite hike in Atlanta. It’s quiet, but central; it’s on the Chattahoochee river, and it has the most beautiful bamboo forest!

8. Visit the MLK Jr Memorial

This is a really powerful experience. You can visit the home that MKL Jr was born in, visit the Civil Rights Museum and learn about the movement against slavery, as well as pay a visit to where MLK Jr is buried.

9. Take a yoga class

I was really impressed by the yoga scene in Atlanta. There are a ton of great studios to visit, but my favorites are Active Sol Yoga in Buckhead, Westside Yoga on the Westside, and Highland Yoga in Virginia Highlands.

10. Shop at the Buford Highway Farmers Market

This is honestly the most amazing grocery store / farmers market I have ever been to. If you travel a lot, like we do, or you’re from another country, this is a great place to get your favorite dish from elsewhere in the world. Plus, the prices are right!

11. Visit The World of Coca-Cola

Ryan and I paid a visit to the World of Coca-Cola on one of our last weekends in Atlanta. We weren’t sure if we would enjoy it since we don’t particularly like Coca-Cola, but this was a fun experience. We got to learn about how Coca-Cola became the massive company it is today, try flavors from around the world, and see their marketing and branding over the years. Be prepared to leave with a sugar high!

12. CNN Tour & Centennial Olympic Park

Atlanta is CNN’s main headquarters, and for about $15 you can take a tour and see how all things CNN happen. I’m not a bit news proponent, but I always think it is interesting to understand how these things work. While you’re at the CNN building, it’s worth it to take a walk through Centennial Olympic Park, and maybe even take a ride on the ferris wheel!

13. Hang out in Piedmont Park

Piedmont Park is one of my very favorite places to spend time in Atlanta. It has a ton of different walking /running/ biking paths to explore, as well as lots of green space where you can simply hang out and enjoy a beautiful sunny day in Atlanta. It also has some of the best views in the city!

14. Go for donuts at Revolution Doughnuts

I think I am a big fan of Revolution because they offer GF donuts. Make sure you go early though, the good donuts sell out fast! 😉

15. Go for drinks at the Sun Dial

The Sun Dial is in the Westin, and the restaurant menu is quite pricey, but the drinks are reasonable for the rooftop, revolving bar experience that you will get. This is an amazing way to see the entire city of Atlanta while sipping a delicious cocktail.

16. Drink Arden’s Garden

Arden’s Garden is an amazing, locally made juice that I absolutely love! Arden’s Garden is easily one of the highlights about being in Atlanta, and one of the things I always look forward to when I get to visit again.

17. Go to a sporting event (or 2!)

The Falcons, the Braves, and the Hawks are all based in Atlanta and it’s worth it to go to at least one (if not all) of these events.

18. Visit the Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is really popular and makes most top-1o lists, and it’s actually a really impressive Aquarium that I would recommend paying a visit to!

19. Try new cuisines!

You can find almost any cuisine you want in Atlanta, from really good sushi, to Thai food, to vegan food, to Ethiopian food. Make sure you spend some time enjoying some of the local cuisine!
